“Simpsons” — is the longest cartoon serial in the history of the American TV, which consists of 451 series and 21 seasons. The serial started on December, 17th, 1989 on FOX channel. It is released by «Gracie Films» for a movie company «20th Century Fox». The serial will be prolonged at least till the 22nd season which will be shown in 2010-2011.

Time magazine named “Simpsons” the best television serial of the twentieth century in 1998.
Simpsons’ family in the animated form first appeared in «The Tracey Ullman Show» (weekly show with comedy and music turns which was shown on FOX channel from April 1987 till May 1990) with the first series «Good night» on April, 19th, 1987.
On February, 9th, 1997 “Simpsons” surpassed “Flinstones” as the longest continuing animated serial in America. In 2004 “Simpsons” exceeded Scooby Doo by quantity of series.
The basic characters were created by Matt Groening for a series of animation insertions into « The Tracey Ullman Show ». Many characters received the names after important people and places of Groening’s life – for example, Lisa and Maggie, Marge and Homer are taken from Matt Groening‘s sisters, mother and father accordingly, Bart – is an anagram of word Brat («the ill-bred child»), and Matt Groening and his big brother Mark typified him.
During the whole history of the show, fans tried to define the city’s location, by taking characteristics of the town, geography, weather conditions and other reference points as a basis. However, both the city, and its location stayed imaginary.
